In my last newsletter I shared that I had begun a sketchbook page without an idea of what I'd draw next. Here's how it developed:
One morning at breakfast I reread my sketchbook text and because I'd written about comparisons - I added to the existing drawing two similar but different drawings. I still don't know where I'm going with this sketchbook page and I'm curious about what will happen. Our cat strongly supported my curiosity and efforts so he's featured alongside my sketchbook rather than my usual fruit plate and coffee.
Another morning was very busy but I thought about my off/on again series of doodlebugs so quickly I made dots of blue paint on my sketchbook page that will become bug characters.
On the third morning I used a 005 fine point Micron pen to draw the bug shapes, legs, antennae and the pens the bugs are using to doodlebug with.
The fourth morning I used my paints and painted a light grey shadow under each bug.
On the fifth morning our cat continued his support of my project - he likes bugs - so I used my fountain pens to draw spirals and lines for the two bugs that previously didn't have a line doodle.
On the sixth morning I gave more dimensions to the bugs: I used more of the blue and dark grey paints to “round out" the bugs, other markers for bug details and a white gel pen for bug highlights. Here's a closer look at my 5.5 x 3.5 inch finished sketchbook page.
Here's a photo of all of the art supplies I used to make this sketchbook page…
… and here's a supply list with some links in bold type (I'm not affiliated with any of these): Beam Paints, Pentel waterbrush, Micron pen, Copic marker, Signo Uniball gel pen (white ink), Sailor Fude de Mannen fountain pens and a Royal Talens sketchbook.
Yes, as you suspected A. M. Sketching is an AI free publication with real-life art made with physical art supplies and no AI text generation whatsoever. It's 100 percent organically made by me.
In other news: this week the Caplan Art Designs Gallery sent me a photo of my 5 panel painting “In The Rabbit Hole” which has been purchased and then installed by the Gallery in the clients kitchen! The Gallery sent me this photo of my artwork in the kitchen with most of the room lights off so I could see how well it looks there even in dim light! I'm pleased with how you can easily see the rabbits and the vegetables! (You can see more details of all 5 panels of this painting here.)
I hope your weekend develops pleasantly and that something delightful happens in your kitchen.

The Sailor Fude does wonderful lettering! I have an artist friend who does calligraphy and when we were drawing together she used my Sailor to do some jaw dropping lettering!
As for your question: of the 4 Sailor Fude pens I have 3 of them are bent 55 degrees and only one is 40 degrees. I love and happily use them all including the 40 and yet the 55 degrees felt natural to my hand almost from the start. The 40 took a little longer for me to practice with to get the feel for it. Does that help?? Also I got converters for all of my pens so I could use other fountain pen inks of my choice. In one of my 55 degree pens I just use the Sailor ink cartridges that come with the pens - I love that ink! It's a nice dark rich black. 💚💚💚💚💚💚
Btw I've noticed they've come down in price recently here https://shop.stlartsupply.com/products/fude-de-mannen-fountain-pen-olive-green?_pos=5&_sid=f713a89ff&_ss=r
Congrats on the sale! That painting would add fun to even the dullest of kitchens!
