It's been a busy week, a record breaking “one for the books” actually but I still managed to make these sketchbook pages while thinking about … well, you’ll see.
And there's this one…
Both of the above sketchbook pages were created with the background awareness that I’m “author of the month" at Storyberries.com! There are 18 books written and or illustrated by me there!
I find this honor so exciting that to keep my feet on the ground I thought about the fickleness of our perceptions (as reflected in the above sketchbook pages). And yet I still let myself absorb and enjoy the kind kudos!
It amuses me that my book “How The Cow Went Over The Moon…” is one of the reader favorites! While there is a farting cow in the book it is also about our perceptions and abilities to learn and stay grounded. Something for both kids and grownups. Here’s a look at a few pages of the printed book.
As mentioned earlier it's been a busy week but I’ve made sure to give myself “poetry breaks”, short afternoon moments containing a mug of hot herbal tea and reading a poem or two. Given Sugar Given Salt by Jane Hirshfield is a great break companion.
As happens with most pleasant moments in my life my poetry breaks become morning sketchbook pages too.
I’m learning that I’m enjoying drawing windows and vista's seen through them. I’m enjoying painting coffee cups and books. Listing, writing about and drawing favorite things is a fun way to stay grounded. Heck, it's just plain fun in that 7 year old kid in the middle of the floor coloring not worrying one bit about if it’s “good” sense of fun.
Kudos are nice but I aim for daily fun.
Housekeeping: welcome to all of my new subscribers both free subscribers and the paid ones! I appreciate all of you! Thank you for joining the fun!
ICYMI last week I gave to my paid “book of the month" subscribers an 84 page sketchbook as an early gift.
There are more books and fun things coming … and you can give a gift subscription to anyone. 😘 Thanks again! I’m glad you're here!
Well done, Sue! Enjoyed the cow’s “PSST” but most notably, your bunny’s message at the end. Applause these days comes in the form of hearts and likes and emojis 👍🏽 and so often becomes a vicious ego-driven cycle. To write/create humbly is challenging but always rewarding, for me, anyway.
Congratulations, author of the month. You deserve that. I really enjoy your newsletter. I am learning so much from you Sue. I like the feet-up. Rabbit.
