The night before breakfast our cat tried to meditatively-hypnotize us into giving him all of our cheese. So during breakfast the next morning I drew a cat walking through a Zen garden and wrote this limerick:
There once was a very big cat.
Who glared at people like that.
Until they could see. They should give him the Brie.
Which explains why the cat is so fat.
Another evening a friend sent a photo of their hollyhocks in bloom. The next morning our cat was sitting so handsomely…
… so I borrowed his pose during my morning sketchbook time and combined it with our friends hollyhocks.
Another morning I finished the drawing. After looking at it a while I'm thinking it might be a fun greeting card or maybe a mug or a pillow on my Zazzle shop. Not sure yet what I’ll put this art on but here's the finished art.
I enjoyed doing the drawing above so much that another morning during breakfast I began something similar…
… which continued another morning with more blue ink from my fountain pen and ink washes with my water brush …
… which continued until it turned out like this below.
I did the above drawings on boards because I’ve just finished my bound “G” sketchbook. Book G is the one you've been seeing weekly in this newsletter since before January. I’m going to begin the process of publishing sketchbook G, making a printed version as well as an ebook version like I did for last year’s sketchbook (which you can see here ). In the mornings I will be beginning sketchbook “H” and will share pages from it in future newsletters too. I will keep you updated about my progress at publishing sketchbook G and my subscribers here will have early access as usual!
Now back to the cats…
I’ve been drawing cats lately in blue ink for the comfort in them and as a way to connect with my fellow democracy loving friends around the world.
During the worst of the pandemic I drew a lot of cats too. I shared them on social media as I created them and the artwork of cats then became a printed book called Numpurrs and a free ebook for kids world-wide on Storyberries.com also titled Numpurrs as well as this mug.
So yes, cats are one of my comfort animals along with hot beverages and books.
Speaking of books: I found “The Cat Who Taught Zen” by James Norbury a delightful read with beautiful artwork and gentle but amusing thoughts.
This week remember to give the cat your cheese, take deep breaths and VOTE!!!

As much as I love the blue cat drawings, and I do! I believe the pic of your cat in his regal pose is asking for something more than cheese. He is asking for your lap Sue Clancy! lol .. I know that look! He is so tired of whatever the heck it is you do with those pens and pads of paper and is giving you the evil-eye to dispense with it all and make way for him! It is all in the eyes.
Love the blue cat Sue! Looking forward to blue voting!
