How it went last night
At the Aurora Gallery
The Aurora Gallery did an incredible job displaying my wide variety of paintings, sculptures, artist books and cards! (There's a carousel of my greeting cards to the left of the artworks in the photo.) The opening party began at 5pm and my wife J. L. Sullens and I went early, or so we thought, only to discover we’d already missed a few folks.
And so the evening began in a rush and a lot of people came and went all evening long!
Below are a few photos of the evening that JL managed to snap in between conversations.
But let me back up:
When getting ready for the evening I wore my “Hate Will Fucking Lose” socks…
… my 5 dollar thrift store pants which are a nice color, and fit perfectly except for being too long. I did some “creative mending” and made them a better length. In the photo I'm pulling up one of the pant legs so you can see my silly stitching. These pants make me smile so for the comfort in it I chose to wear them to my exhibit …
… I also chose my favorite hat which is handmade by a local artist group “The Hat People”. You'll see it in the photos below. Thus fortified off we went to the exhibit.
Here's the scene downtown as we walked to the gallery from where we found parking. The gallery is on the path we're walking; there's a place called “Social Kitchen” (SK), which is often cooking something that smells yummy and is filled with lots of people eating, talking, listening to music and laughing. Next door to the Social Kitchen is a coffee shop, Carino Coffee, that has (we know from experience) comfy chairs and good coffees; my favorite is their Mexican coffee but I digress. The Aurora Gallery is next door to the coffee shop. Next door, on the other side, to the gallery is Eryngium Paperterie - the enchanting pens, ink, paper, notebooks, sketchbooks magic rabbit hole I've mentioned before. Across the street is a bookstore, a record store, a historical theater, an Irish pub… Literally this downtown block is my idea of heaven! The city is currently repairing the street so that's why there's orange and white barriers… anyway, the scene downtown as we walked to the gallery:
Here's some of the photos from the evening:
It did my heart good to see dear friends, to meet new people and to see everybody enjoying the evening! I smiled to see people smiling while they looked at my paintings! I felt joy at seeing them carrying my books, cards, cups and prints! I loved and appreciated everyone! Thank you all!
My art works will be on display all month at the Aurora Gallery whenever you need a bit of whimsy and love. https://www.auroragalleryonline.com/
If you can't visit the gallery in person you can see most of my things via the links in my last post (click here).
I'll end with a closer look at the crowd’s favorite painting from last night:
