Thursday Oct 5 from 6 to 8 at the Caplan Art Designs Gallery was the opening reception for my "Figures of Speech" fine art exhibit!! My exhibit has twenty five artworks (twenty three paintings and two 3d sculptures) that I've created this year. For a year I've paid attention to all the common phrases I've read, heard or said myself. Then I used humor to visually explore those phrases, figures of speech, and think about their meanings. Via my art I wanted to have a gentle laugh and share the laughter with others. And we did!!! During the reception we had lots of smiles and laughter!! Amy and Steve at the Caplan Art Designs Gallery did an amazing job displaying my work and handling the 3 paintings that sold prior to the opening and the 1 painting and 1 sculpture sold during the reception.
The exhibit without people looked like this:
The exhibit with all of the wonderfully kind people who were able to come to the reception looked like this:
I'm wearing an orange shirt with my pen clipped in the collar … never know when I might need to draw something.
Yes, we let people handle the art. Art is for living with!!
I handled it too and I did a lot of talking about what inspired each art piece and how I made it. The sculpture I did titled “Thinking Outside The Box” was especially handled often because I had painted it to look like an empty cardboard box but it's a solid wood cube and feels hefty! We had a lot of laughs over that one! (You can see a video of it here)
Here's me in the middle between Amy and Steve.
My unbelievably patient, kind and wonderful wife, the writer
and me with Steve. And, and, AND I got to be all fan-girl hanging out with the poet
! I bought 2 of his books! And he autographed them!!! Wahoo!!!And, and, AND I also got to be all fan-girl hanging out with
and Deb, his wife!!! E.R. is the mysterious fellow in black behind me. I'm lucky enough to have signed books from him too!!! Yippee!!!All evening we did a lot of smiling, laughing and even some clowning around!
I'm delighted that so many people could come to the reception! I enjoyed seeing everyone! Thank you, too, for reading my recent newsletters about my exhibit and following the fun! Did you get your ebook version of my Figures Of Speech exhibit album? It's here. Printed book versions are here.
My exhibit continues the entire month of October but in upcoming newsletters I'll share more sketchbook pages and such as is my more typical just as soon as I get rested...
I hope your weekend is relaxing!
Oh how delightful and uplifting. And now I'm enamored with Alphapets!😻
It's a great exhibit Sue! It was wonderful to chat with you, Judy, Jason and all the other folks who attended. Your work is always so vibrant and fun to look at. If anyone happens to be in Portland they should definitely swing by the Caplan Art Designs Gallery!
