Lol!!! Thank you for seeing that!! It has seemed to me that most things in life, creative projects or otherwise, start off messy and get shaped and honed over time into something better. It's hard sometimes to be patient during the messy beginnings and hard to trust that things *can* grow and become something worthwhile. When things are the messiest is when we have to practice patient persistence.
Dear Sue, I just heard that 2 Judges on the East coast have ordered that the SNAP payments must be made immediately because Congress had already set money aside for just this situation. They both said in separate rulings that not paying these benefits was illegal. It is looking like they will start paying. Unless this corrupt administration ignore these judges. I will be hoping the payments are MADE!! :-)
I love that you draw to keep an even keel during such a time as this! Okay, there has never been a time like this in my life time!! Still, I love even more that you share your drawings and your drawing skills!!! And thank you for sharing what you read!!! You are a treasure Sue in so many ways! :-)
Oh! I'm relieved to hear about the Judges ruling!! I hope they can enforce it and get SNAP rolling out again asap!!! I won't be surprised if this administration tries to circumvent the ruling - they've already thumbed noses at Judges in the past and had to be forced to follow the rulings. We'll just need to continue to help each other and not wait for this administration to be forced to comply with the Judges. We can go ahead and create the world we want by each of us doing whatever we can!
Thank you so much for your kindness and support!! I love your comments and I appreciate hearing thst you like what I share!! *Thank you!!!!!* You are a treasure too!!!! 💙💚💙💚💙💚💙💚💙💚💙💚
enforcing it is always the problem. It seems like they were told stopping the USAID payments for foreign aid had to continue and they slow rolled it and I'm not sure if they ever did. My understanding they either destroyed or are still warehousing emergency food aid.
Lots to love. I just donated to your local coffee shop in the hope that they can continue until your government finally comes to its senses. Unfortunately I don’t see that happening any time soon. But the lawyers are doing a wonderful job of pointing out their stupidity. Sigh.
Loved that stirring song for freedom at the end. And of course, wonderful art, as always.
Thanks so much dear Sue. Sending heaps of hugs and best wishes.
OMG!!!! I have tears in my eyes and a smile on my face feeling such gratitude to you!!!! Thank you THANK YOU so much for your support!! 💙🤗💙 OMG!! Reading your comment made my morning so much better!!! Yes, I'm glad the courts and lawyers are doing what they can and that it's working. I'm glad for all of the protests and resistance at every level... and yes, I agree with you, it's going to be quite a while before we have a sane government again. We will simply have to continue to support and encourage each other as best we can. And my heart is warmed and full of love in appreciation of your encouragement!!! THANK YOU AGAIN!!!! 💙💚💙💚💙💚💙Sending you heaps of hugs, gratitude and best wishes too!!! 🤗
Once again you get to the heart of the matter: feeling like making art is not enough of a contribution to the revolution and realizing that making art both lends comfort and resolve to the other resisters, and jabs a stick in the butt of the would be oppressors. If we can still make art, we haven't lost our hearts or our hope.
It is hard to get up each morning and not know what is going to happen that day, (What new crime against humanity will the orange buffoon commit today?) and then step into the studio and make art. I just don't know what else to do.
Thank you for letting me know I'm not the only artist dealing with this feeling! You phrase it so very well "..making art both lends comfort and resolve to the other resisters, and jabs a stick in the butt of the would be oppressors. If we can still make art, we haven't lost our hearts or our hope." !!! I may make a sign for my studio wall so I can remember that art "jabs a stick.."
And that "if we can make art we still have a heart"!!!! What a wonderful way to phrase it!!! As long as we still have our hearts we have won!!!! 💚💙💚💙💚💙💚💙💚💙
I was going to say “jab a stick” somewhere else, but decided the image made me too queasy. Anyway, the would be oppressors definitely need to be jabbed.
I have gotten many comments from my readers of panda satire saying how much that day’s ‘toon got them through feelings of despair. We are all feeling it, and if we can not melt down all at the same time, we might be okay.
Exactly!!! We can help each other physically, mentally and emotionally! And satire like your pandas really *do* help!! Let's keep the art flowing!!! 🎨 💙😊😘🥰💙
Sue, I can’t think of anything more appropriate, revitalizing or important as creating art in these times. Art is an act of love and revolution. It recalls us and those who see and feel it to our best selves. I wrote about all that here https://open.substack.com/pub/passalongsongs/p/times-like-these-1
and hope you’ll do me the honor of allowing me to write about your work one day soon. Thank you for being a light in my days.
I’m sure we can come up with something that’s both creative and inspiring for ourselves and others. I really believe that art can be a catalyst for revolution - the best kind of revolution that taps our strengths (kindness, empathy, generosity, and yes resilience and joy) and helps us see that what we share far outweighs our differences. That kind of loving strength is irrepressible and unstoppable. Fear, bullying, violence, and threats don’t stand a chance in the face of that kind of creative exuberance and power. Let’s chat!
What I love about the rabbit painting is that, in the end, it's not scribbly at all!
