Last week I wrote here on A.M. Sketching about a quilt my adopted Mom and Dad made together. I wrote more on my website about having the quilt framed and I shared more memories… you can see that here https://sueclancy.com/quilts-love-and-the-importance-of-stories/ and also here 👇
If you read my memories in that post you’ll recognize the sketchbook page at the top of this post. I’ve been thinking a lot about my adopted family lately and ways to carry them along with me.
Another day this week at breakfast I was thinking of how Mom liked orchids and about another concept I learned from them. A basset hound character reflects my current feelings so I both drew the dog, with orchids and wrote a phrase with my fountain pens. This drawing served as a warm up to do a painting using gouache.
In another breakfast sketchbook drawing I tried the dog from a different angle and a different kind of vase for the orchids. Dad liked to quote Epictetus so I wrote a quote in my book.
Here's a peek at the painting in progress on my easel. I’ll post the finished art on my blog this coming Monday.
Here's a book that I appreciated this week - and a link for more about it https://bookshop.org/a/86356/9781452182957
I’ve also been learning about and reading in the hopepunk genre and that has been pleasant. Here's some details https://tinyurl.com/3jkcfjab
I think Mom and Dad would have enjoyed this genre too. As a result of this discovery and wanting to share it I’ve begun keeping a list of books to cheer up by - you can see my list here https://bookshop.org/lists/books-to-cheer-up-by
Speaking of cheer … don't these tomatoes look delightful in this box?
I hope your books and boxes contain things that make you smile and feel loved this week.
Prettty they would love the genre and lived it most days!! Love ya big!
Each time I see your art confirms that I have made a beautiful choice with this newsletter.
