I'm sending this email early (usually I post on Fridays) because my fine art exhibit at Caplan Art Designs is titled Odditerrarium and it opens Thursday October 6 from 6 to 8 pm and will continue through October.
To say the least this week has been busy. Breakfast was gobbled in a hurry and not one sketchbook drawing was done. Not the way I prefer to have my breakfast but it was necessary. Since this exhibit has resulted directly from my sketchbooks, and since I’ve shared some of those sketchbook pages here, I thought you'd like to see the rest of the story so to speak. Here's how the exhibit looks on the Caplan Art Designs Gallery wall.
In each of these paintings I was thinking about thinking processes as well as making a portrait of a cat or a dog. Here's my exhibit statement.
Yes, all of the cats and dogs have their thinking caps on! Lol! 😆
Joking aside when the paintings are hung together they make a nonsense poem. Which is another joke really…😆 Okay I'll calm down. Let me show you what I mean… read the “plaques “ on the terrarium hat/thinking caps in my paintings below.
Even if you just look at the art on the image level it can “read”: fish, flowers, food, fantasy. And this is intentional. Perhaps you've heard this quote:
I created a printed artist book also titled Odditerrarium that includes my paintings in another nonsense poem form. The printed book is available at the Gallery and can also be ordered online here. Here's what the cover looks like.
Here's a few page spreads.
Here's a video of me showing the entire Odditerrarium book, reading aloud and talking generally about it… click here to see the video.
I hope you'll be able to see my exhibit in person but I know many of my fans live far away from Portland Oregon USA where the exhibit is physically located. So, for your pleasure, besides the artist book I’ve also made a webpage that has all of the artwork on it and many other details, including a link to a special ebook… You’ll find everything here: https://sueclancy.com/portfolio/odditerrarium/
Maybe next week there will be leisurely breakfasts with time for sketchbook drawings. In the meantime let's enjoy my art exhibit together. Thank you for sharing a smile with me!
Congratulations, Sue! And thanks for sharing a virtual tour with us.
I enjoyed the video. The poem makes perfect sense to me!
