As I worked towards my recent fine art exhibit, especially the 5 doodlebug paintings, I thought of how very much I enjoy drawing. So I took an 8 inch by 18 inch sheet of handmade paper, folded it, and created “Shapes By Doodlebug”. My art book is now available as a free ebook on Storyberries.com and I include a downloadable ebook -also free- in this newsletter, at the end, for all of my subscribers.
Here's what the original artist book looks like.
There are more pages in this little book and I'll let the punchline artwork remain a surprise for you to find. 😁
Here's a look at the doodlebugs in my current fine art exhibit … details in my last newsletter.
Here is one of the adult doodlebugs in a morning video class demonstrating the application of basic line shapes… which a young doodlebug will be able to do with practice. 😉👇https://youtube.com/shorts/xfLm1l4VqDA?si=q3qbdWqb9AAXh6_K
Another adult doodlebug (the yellow bug in my exhibit photo above) demonstrates a basic line for all drawn shapes. You can do this too young doodlebug! 👇 https://youtube.com/shorts/qKYTFxqz2T0?si=us2PLgmi4plDlt_a
As I created my doodlebug fine art and my new kids book (and the cheeky videos) I was remembering my time working as a biological/zoological illustrator and thinking of how each plant and animal has their specialties. (For example we grownups wouldn't have tequila for our margarita cocktails if we didn't have one specific plant pollinated by one specific bat!)
In this diverse creative world we all have our interests, abilities and things we enjoy doing the most. And that's necessary! This world is created every day via interest, ability and love! The world needs a variety of plants, insects and animals in order for the ecosystem to work well. Similarly we need a wide variety of creativity - each doodlebug drawing its preferred shapes - for our mental ecosystems to work well too!
Anyhoo, back to my new kids book… here's another look at the front cover of my original artwork.
Here's a link to my free ebook on Storyberries.com - I have 20 titles on Storyberries now! 😮 (search my name on the site) - my newest ebook on Storyberries looks like this on the website. 👇
Yes, as of this writing my ebook on Storyberries has been read over 3000 times!! Here's me hoping kids all over this world are learning to draw shapes and discovering how much fun it is to make their own marks on paper!
I hope that you too are able to spend time this week doing the things that interest you and that you love to do! This world needs you being yourself!
Below is a free downloadable ebook of my “Shapes By Doodlebug” for all of my subscribers both free and paid. Please feel free to share my ebook too. Thank you for subscribing, reading, sharing and just being yourself!

You continue to be one of the most interesting people I know.
Love all of this!
A new treasure - thanks to Rebecca Holden’s recommendation. What a joy. Thanks so much. 🤗🤗😘
