As a reader living in the Pacific Northwest United States, I recently responded artistically to a new book of haiku poems by
who lives in New England. Gauffreau's new book is titled “Simple Pleasures: Haiku from the place just right”https://paulstreampress.com/simple-pleasures
I found Elizabeth's poetry and her photographs, with which she illustrated her new book, compelling and inspiring. I wanted to make my own art after reading her work.
So I've done a creative amalgamation, using gouache, color pencils and ink in accordion book form, of some of my favorite places that echo and harmonize with Elizabeth Gauffreau’s favorite places. Even though we live on opposite coasts of the United States I was amazed at what kinds of natural places we had in common.
My work is 3.5 x 2.5 inches when closed and when it opens it is 15 inches wide. So you can sense the scale of it here it is in my hand.
Here's a video look-through so you can see how it flows.
Here's a panoramic view of the whole book.
Here are closer views of each segment so you can read the names of the PNW places I chose.
I recommend “Simple Pleasures: Haiku from the place just right” by Elizabeth Gauffreau as an inspiring and pleasant exercise in loving places in nature - wherever you live in this world.
