Making scribbling marks on a page is enjoyable. Lines apropos of nothing like the kind made by a bug. Here's a bug making an appearance during breakfast in my sketchbook. The bug is drawing with a fountain pen kind of like one of my pens. The bug's colors were inspired by the apple slices and the cast shadows on the plate.
During another day’s breakfast I added details to the bug. And more to the bug's doodle…
Another breakfast added more to the bug and to the doodle… at the end of each breakfast sketchbook session I leave myself a line open, dangling, so I know where to begin the next day.
A fourth day’s breakfast saw more ink and gouache details on the bug and more fountain pen doodles…
The 5th day's breakfast has more on the bug’s doodle. This page will remain “open” for more doodles on those mornings when I don't have new content but am maintaining my sketchbook habit so the muse knows where to contact me.
Speaking of bugs… I made a 2 inch square handmade accordion artist book called “Ant Hology”. In my book the ants carry English alphabet letters, punctuation marks and a few numbers to the queen. “Ant Hology” was released on Storyberries this week as a free ebook for children. You can see it here: https://www.storyberries.com/anthology-experimental-art-books-counting-alphabet-books-for-kids/
Ant Hology is collected in an anthology (yes, the pun is intended!) with 2 more of my tiny numbers and letters based childrens books titled “Juggling Numbers and Letters” https://www.blurb.com/b/11198251-juggling-numbers-and-letters
Here's a photo of the three original artist books and the larger sized anthology.
Here's a peek inside the anthology at the book “Ant Hology”. (Yes, I have lots of fun playing with words and images!)
I hope your weekend contains relaxing fun apropos of nothing and lines left open so the muse can get in touch.
The featured bug
I absolutely LOVE the bug. Glad I saved the post in my email and didn't miss it while I took a break from reading blogs and newletters. :)
“Leaving the line open....” I often do this with a sentence in my journal. I love the interconnectedness of sketching and writing.
