Another wonderfully informative, interesting, and uplifting post, Sue! I'm just sorry that you're still dealing with COVID-related medical issues. Be well, already!!!
Thank you for both your kind comment -I'm so glad to know you enjoyed my post!! Thank you too for your well wishes!! I'm working hard at recovering πͺ ππ«Άπππ
I'm glad the opening went well without you, but damn! I hate when complications have complications. I hope you feel better soon, but probably not as much as you wish you did.
and yes. music soothes many ills. It's gotten me through many hard times.
Oh noooooooβ¦.. COVID is such a dreadful disease! Sighβ¦. Thank you for these musical thoughts. I love the art so much. Please take care of yourself dear Sue. Sending heaps of hugs and best wishes.
Thank you so much! Yes, covid and it's aftermath has *not* been fun at all. So I thank you heartily for your hugs and best wishes!!! It makes me smile to hear that you loved my art and musical thoughts- and *that* helps me feel better too!! Thank you!!! ππππππ
"Refrain for L.B." is a very happy song by musicians who obviously enjoy each other's company. I'm glad your exhibit opening went well, even though you couldn't be there. βΉοΈThe video gives a great sense of the paintings when displayed. They're incredible. You've really outdone yourself this time! How cool that the urgent care doctor recommending an Irish folk tune! Please, please, please get better soon, soon, soon! π₯°π₯°π₯°
Thank you!!! THANK YOU!!!! You made me smile so big, made my heart so happy!!!! I'm doing my darndest to get better!!! Thank you so very much for your well wishes too!!! π₯°π₯°π₯°πππ«Άππ
Thank you for such delight and whimsy. The world needs so much more of it.
Before there was language there was song. Humming, chanting, making music without words. It was a sacred thing we did together to help us see the world around us. I love this musing about music, and I do hope you feel better soon. Sending healing thoughts and energy your way. β€οΈ
TGIF to you and all of your readers,Sue. Please be Well π«Ά and thank you for always cheering us up,even though the tough times and will reStack ASAP ππ€
The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. One of many groups that popularized Irish traditional music (ceol traidisiΓΊnta) and βrebel songs.β When I was about 15 my mother bought a couple of CB&TM LPs and I was hooked! πΆπ»
Music played an important role in my life. πβοΈ
Tommyβs a Northerner (from Co. Antrim) among Southerners. You can hear his different accent. Each area of the country has its unique accent and specific words for things.
Tommyβs mother, Sarah Makem, was also a famous βsean nosβ or old-style singer.
I used to sing CB&TM pieces to myself while running my track mile before school each day. πβοΈ
Long ago I participated long distance in multiple art events at the Wexford Arts Center in Wexford Ireland. The events drew people from all over Ireland and the world. Yes, the various accents from within Ireland alone were lovely!!!
Here in Vancouver Washington there are several Irish pubs and Irish festivals... lots of old style Irish music! Love it!! π
I'll bet you did sing the tunes to yourself!!! I have a number of Irish poems I recite to myself...
Thank you for this post! I love the drawings that go with a bit of history I did not know, but I'm not surprised that music came first--and music persists. My writing partner, Kathy, is a musician and a story teller. I think you would enjoy her substack. And I will forward yours to her.
Sue Clancy youβre so kind, and your comments about our music are especially appreciated because I Really Like your art π. Fred and I will make it out to Burnt Bridge Cellars in July for sure. We went to a past exhibit of yours there, really enjoyed the space and the opportunity to view your wonderful work. Fred is also an artist/illustrator, so we both very much enjoy seeing what youβre up to.Β
I love how you describe your creative relationship between art and music. I remember that hotel gig where you gifted us your special in-real-time-to-the-music line drawings.Β Hope to see you once youβve gotten your strength back. Take care, Kathy
Iβm a musician and I make musical instruments, thank you for wording all this so well. Sometimes Iβm afraid that, when I say that making music is the most important thing we can make in this moment, people would think me selfish! I love the drawing of the flamingo doublebass!! I really love it!! The open left wing feathers are exactly in the right position of a double bass player, fingers wide open!
Sue, feel better asap! I was hoping that you were totally free of Covid effects. Eat well, play more and rest moreπ©·ππ¦πβ€οΈπI love all of the ones you posted here!
Music is love.
So true!!!! π
