Our Fairy Goddaughter came to my exhibit opening at the winery Burnt Bridge Cellars and, thank goodness, took these photos! She, with her healthy ankles, could pop here and there snapping pictures while I, mostly, stood or sat in one spot.
Here's my wife and I with our 5 star chef of the evening.
When we walked into the winery the cooking food was tantalizing!
The people at the lively table next to us had early reservations and, when their food was served, dove with enthusiasm into their plates. Conversation at their table was suddenly reduced to “mmmm" and “sooo gooood".
The soundscape of the evening was live music by Kendall Lujan - a peppery jazzy mix of tunes.
We got to have fun visits with lots of different people and not all were photographed because we were just enjoying ourselves and not everything in life is for social media.
But some of my fellow artists came and I wanted to be sure to record that!
In the photo below the sculptor Russell Ford and his wife, the poet Barbara Ford are standing with my wife, writer of short fiction,
and me near some of Barbara's favorites of my work in the exhibit. Our Fairy Goddaughter is a visual artist too and she's behind the camera. We were joined by the illustrator and cartoonist
and his wife!It delighted me to hear and see everyone's jokes and laughter!!
As often happens when a bunch of creative people get together we “talk shop”; about our art projects, about how we each cope with the various issues of living a creative life.
At one point my ankle reminded me to get off of it so we moved to a larger table with room enough for all of us.
There Russell raised the issue of how we deal with too much negative self-criticism and keep our projects going. Everyone had thoughts to share!
This morning, Saturday, I summed up some of our thoughts about self-talk and cultivating resiliency in my sketchbook.
Back to last night: it was fun to watch people look at my artwork and smile and laugh and take photos of it!! That reminds me of why I do what I do… I love connecting with people via smiles and fun!
And of course the wines were wonderful!!!
Thank you to Burnt Bridge Cellars, to the Caplan Art Designs Gallery and to everyone who came!! You made the evening so fun and special! And an extra special thank you to our Fairy Goddaughter for taking the photos!!
We went home pretty early for what is my normal at such exhibits because my ankle wanted ibuprofen and ice packs.
But my gosh what FUN!!! My exhibit continues through the end of July. If you're a new subscriber - welcome! - you can catch up about my exhibit here 👇
I hope you'll be having some fun of your own!!
What a great gathering! 💚💙💚🥇
