Yes, it is painful. It's also a reminder of why good government for all and governmental services like the post office are important to society, it's part of the stitching of our social fabric.
You probably noticed my reference to other times in recent US history when postal service was also negatively affected.... Like the Arts, education and public health whenever Republicans attack the idea of government-for-all the post office is often one of the casualties. Our first-class mail, by law, cannot be read by anyone other than the recipient. Our digital email etc can be easily captured and read... so like the other things that enable and encourage private citizens to socially interact freely, the Arts, education and public health, the post office is one of the earliest targets of the bullies. We can resist by deliberately sending postal mail!!
Lorene and Sue, my impression is that they are digging their own graves. The worm will turn and probably sooner than later.
Do contact congress people of all stripes and let them know what you think of what is going on. Try to stay brief. And keep doing it everyday. I rely on the Sierra Club emails to easily let my congress people know my concerns for our environment and all things in nature as well as the dismantling of our government. Then I send the same thoughts to a few republicans. They need to hear from all of us, too. Like today!
Yes!!! And thank you for all you're doing!!! I've been contacting Congress almost daily too! The Sierra Club is a great resource!!! So is https://5calls.org/
Here's hoping their goose is so fully cooked extra crispy that their grave is dug very soon!
I am always overjoyed when one of your cards is in my mailbox. No matter what kind of day I am having it immediately makes it better. Thank you so much for allowing me to be one of those that you send your precious cards to.
Thank you so much for your friendship!!! It's an honor and a delight to send you cards and such a treat when we're able to visit in person!!! Love and hugs from both me and JL 💙💙💙💙💙💙
I love the Jena Ball quote!! For some reason, the thought of a caffeine owl appeals to me. Bottom's up, Barney! And three cheers for the OCCP project!!
Good!!! Scratch that card making itch vigorously!!!! Love and owls to Uncle Stoney!!!! Thank you so much for your kindness!!! And blessings to you too!!!
I absolutely loved this: “Cards in the mail are one of the many ways love is made tangibly real.”
For many years when my kids were young we’d make out our own holiday or birthday cards to family or friends. This was way before email, and there were still landlines.
I was also an avid letter writer to my mom, dad, aunts and a cousin of two.
I really miss those days of sending and receiving tangible snail mail love cards.
When Covid hit and I taught myself watercolor painting, I revived the old tradition and everyone received hand painted cards. Same that year for Valentine’s Day.
I still value our postal service today as much as I did in those days of yore.
That's wonderful that you taught yourself to watercolor!!!! Bravo!!! Keep going!!! Love it that you have a history of sending postal mail too!! The postal mail still works and if we use it and value it outloud hopefully we can keep it.
I'm delighted to hear that you enjoy my posts and drawings! I'll do my best to keep going too! 💙💙💙
“Too many owls prided themselves on being awake all night without a need for stimulants. "Whooo needs it?" They'd say. The local economy and Barney that's whooo.” Gave me a right chuckle 🤭
I am like your dad for I love love love postcards and cards and have always been sending them. People are overjoyed when they receive them. That is why I wonder why it is not generally popular anymore 🤔.
Since postcards have become rare and are generally quite ugly, to be frank, I make them with my own photographs. So good to read you initiate OCCP now with your wonderful art, be it painted, drawn or in the form of stamps 🥳. Also, your porcupine is absolutely adorable. Can I get a happiness balloon from cutie Spike Prickly, please? 😍
The irony of this ode to snail mail of a day when the cretins promise to take down the US post office is painful
