One morning I woke up thinking “books give you wings”. The prior evening before turning out the lights I had finished a wonderfully transporting fiction novel “The Spellshop" by Sarah Beth Durst. So during breakfast time, while the coffee percolated, I drew some of my own magical critters, lightly with a watercolor pencil, in my sketchbook. Then I spread a bit of gouache paint colors on top of the pencil and let all of that dry while pouring the coffee and assembling breakfast. Then, while my muffin and coffee cooled, I added some ink lines to firm up some shapes.
After eating I added some more color pencil shading. Our cat supported this entire project - a flying mouse! Imagine that! - and even endorsed it (in exchange for a tiny bit of butter).
Another morning I woke up thinking about how mundane things are often magical when I relax and focus without judgement on what's in front of me. So during breakfast I drew another mouse-fly … but this one is blowing fountain pen ink and wash bubbles.
Still another morning I did a magic mouse-fly using gouache paints - look at that pretty gold color! - with coffee colored fountain pen ink lines on top.
Is the mouse-fly below possibly too attracted to a better mouse-fly trap? Naw, it's not a trap! How could it be a trap? It's the magic elixir of life!!
Anyway, I hope your weekend is just as magical as you wish it!
P.S. Did you get your Thank you book? There's room for you to add your own magic because I made a downloadable book - that can be colored and folded by you - for my subscribers in appreciation of your ongoing support of my work - thank you all !!!! You can download it here 👇
