Your prep work--reading about a topic youβre drawing--is such a fascinating idea, I may do it in reverse. An artist I am not, but it seems like it would get the creativity flowing.
Yes!!!!! I do it in reverse too!! It's fun to scratch one's curiosity-itch which makes it itch more, so ya scratch it via whatever mark-making you do, which makes the curiosity-itch more itchy... or makes another curiosity-itch show itself... and so it goes!!! This is one area of life where Grandma's admonition "dont scratch that bite" does *not* apply!!! π€£πππ Have fun!!!
Sue, your trees are stunning - they all have such delightful character. I hope you're having an absolutely terrific time at Vintage Books today! π³ I can't wait to read how much you enjoyed it. π
I'm delighted you like my trees!!! Thank you for telling me as it's nice to share the fun with you!!! And I look forward to telling you all about my time at Vintage Books... stay tuned. ππππππ
Wow Sue... so generous of you! I downloaded a few of my favorite trees. πIs the mug for sale... a link maybe to purchase? I love your drawings and your insightful ponderings as you sketch each morning! Iβve put you top of my list to pay asa Iβm at a financial level to do so! ππcongratulations on the book and live drawing gig... nothing like local celebrity events! πβ€οΈ
Oh Joan that's so kind of you - thank you for everything in your comment!!! Yes, the mug is for sale and the bold link in the newsletter should have taken you to it - in the highly likely event that I didn't get the link in my newsletter here it is: https://www.zazzle.com/portraits_of_trees_mug-256108612681968979
I'm delighted you've saved your favorites π€πππ And thank you again!!!
Trees are so hard to paint! What a wonderful way to develop the skills. Youβd build a bond with each tree and capturing its moods in each season would be such fun. I love the results. Thanks so much for sharing them with us. I hope your in-house session goes wonderfully. π€π€ππ²π³π΄π΅πΏπππ
Thank you!! Yes, trees are a challenge! And as you say it is a fun way yo approach a challenge!! I've done this a number of times over the years: dogs were a challenge to draw so I selected some 5 or so breeds and did 25 portraits of each dog breed. Did the same with cats... and several other subjects. And thanks for your well wishes...ππ€
About a week ago I was talking with a friend up on the Washington-Oregon border and in the course of βwhat are you reading now and what do you recommend?β Part of our conversation, she recommended βThe Overstoryβ to me. I just saw the title on your book list!
Sue, these are wonderful, thank you. I am reminded of my second poem some weeks ago, which was inspired by a beautiful tree in my neighborhood. Somehow I hadn't noticed it before then. These paintings are rich and heartwarming. Thank you for sharing them.
Thank you for your kind comment!! I appreciate you and it delights me that you too greeted at tree in your neighborhood with your artistic heart!!! πππ
Oh this is so very delightful! I love that you read a variety of books on the same thing you're drawing. I love to do that type of thing as well, going deep into different perspectives on a topic including material that might only be slightly related.
Yes!!! It's such a fun way to play with a topic!!! It's like board-game-night but more....what's the word I'm looking for here?... 'scholarly' isn't it because this feels waaay more fun! Anyway however its described I like deep-diving into topics and living with them for a while with variations! Glad to hear I'm not the only one who does this!! Thank you!!! πππ
Living with them for awhile - yes exactly this ! I have found myself get curious about such random topics over the years. And I just go with it. Because but makes life so much more fun.
