One morning I woke up reluctant to swing my hurt foot out of bed, reluctant to get up at all, why would a mermaid leave the sea? So at the breakfast table I drew this page in blue ink.
During another morning I thought about my doctor's instructions from more than a week ago that I'm supposed to rest. That has meant not doing some of the things I usually do - and an adjustment to my typical ways. I've never been someone who ironed tea towels but I do other extraneous efforts that perhaps aren't really necessary. So I drew this sketchbook page to remind myself that it's okay right now if things aren't “just so".
Earlier I finished a new painting that I've titled “Ass Over Teacup”. More details over on my blog… but here's my ass. 😉
Also, I just visited the doctor again got a new cast - which I've named Jameson.
The doctor tells me again, very firmly, to stay off the foot and rest.
So I'll elevate my foot at home and read…
I hope your week will be as restful as possible and remember it's okay to not iron the tea towels.

Haikus for Healing
1.
Doctor's visit, cast
Newly named "Jameson" rests
Healing bones encased.
2.
The doctor's firm voice,
"Stay off the foot, give it rest,"
Echoes in my mind.
3.
Jameson, my shield,
Cradles fractures, mends the splits,
Quietly, we bond.
4.
Elevated high,
My foot dreams in its white cloud,
Pages turn, time flies.
5.
In stillness, we read,
Jameson and I find peace,
Healing in the words.
