Haikus for Healing

1.

Doctor's visit, cast

Newly named "Jameson" rests

Healing bones encased.

2.

The doctor's firm voice,

"Stay off the foot, give it rest,"

Echoes in my mind.

3.

Jameson, my shield,

Cradles fractures, mends the splits,

Quietly, we bond.

4.

Elevated high,

My foot dreams in its white cloud,

Pages turn, time flies.

5.

In stillness, we read,

Jameson and I find peace,

Healing in the words.

I know how difficult and irritating it is to give yourself the time to heal. If I made you grin then my work is done here. But! Expect more. ❤️

They know when you’re on it too much. I was so embarrassed when my beloved DPM busted me.

And it's so hard to find that line for myself of "too much"... I really did think I had already been resting. But apparently I hadn't been 🤦‍♀️ As you say "busted"!

I think I’m going to have to look up that book. Definitely time for me to rest a little too. Take care dear Sue. WE know you’ve been trying hard. Not too much longer hopefully. 🤗🤗😘

Rest is good but frustrating!

Sue Clancy's avatar

Yes it is!! I really thought I had already been resting- I've been doing much less activity that I did prior to my ankle adventure. But apparently I've not properly comprehended the term “rest” 🤦‍♀️

So sorry to hear that your foot is still not good. Does it mean no housework and more time to sketch? That could be looking at it in a positive way.

Sue Clancy's avatar

Lol!!! Yes!! That's the way I've thought of it a "No housework" sabbatical and an opportunity to read and do art. The ways to do my artwork from a laying down- no walking on foot - position has been a challenge. Or to put it another way an interesting creative puzzle 🤣

And thank you for your kind comment!!

Your line 'why would a mermaid leave the sea?' is just so beautiful, Sue. 🧜‍♀️ And, Jameson - what a handsome cast! I agree - life's too short to iron tea towels... or sweat the small stuff.

Keep UP the foot, and keep UP the good work! You've got this. Rest, rest, rest, and look forward to being back on your feet when the time is right! 😁

HEEHAW! This cracked me up, especially since it's the second article I've read today about this subject. Dr. Dixie Lane of The Hollow wrote an article about "busyness," why we think busyness is the most productive way to live, and why, perhaps, we need to realize what we busily DO doesn't really define US. (As a Christian, she referred the story of Jesus admonishing Martha to stop cleaning the house and spend time attaining spiritual growth. I hope this aspect doesn't push you away from her work.) Anyway, after COVID kicked the slacks out of our ambitions, we all seem to be yearning to keep that home-focused life from now on.

Good self reminders. The new cast is, at least, an excellent green - and I see you have special green crocheted foot toppers (I'm guessing). Very nice. I hope you are following orders.... letting the tea towels go is really okay.

Thank you!!! And the green and black color combination is one I hadn't considered before even in artwork... but I will now!! The crocheted toe warmer was a gift from the hospital volunteers! So kind of them!! 💚💚💚

Thank you!!! What I did: I slipped on the ice during a recent ice storm and twisted my ankle. "Severe Level 3 Sprain" the doctors call it. I tore tendons, ligaments, muscles and damaged nerves. I did everything you can do to hurt an ankle except break a bone. And geez louise it hurts - but I think it is getting better, hurting less now 🤞

I thought I was resting as per the doctor's orders at the beginning but in my last checkup they explained that I wasn't resting properly and gave me more instructions ... so I'm trying to rest better now!!
