I did this in my Procreate app. I found your instructions intuitive easy to follow and I think this would be good for school age kids.

Thank you so much!! I was wondering if my concept would translate to apps like Procreate so I appreciate hearing that! And I'm very glad to hear my instructions were easy to follow! Whew!! Thank you again!!!!

Even I could draw these!! Your instructions are both easy to follow and engaging (encouraging and friendly). The only process question I had was when you started to color them in. I didn't know what I was supposed to do with coloring the beaks. (The exemplar birds have colored beaks, except for one.)

What immediately struck me about the activity was how perfect it would be for parents and teachers to use to help children develop their fine motor skills. I could also see a language development component if the children gave the birds names and a little story. I have to say, I'm excited by thumb birds! You've really got a winner here!!

GLORIOUS, Sue! I really enjoyed this tutorial, and it made perfect sense! Can't wait to thumb some birds!

I've done paint-splotch birds in the past - you know, a dot of wet watercolour - lots, on a page, actually - leaving the paint to dry and then adding eyes and beaks and tails and crests and stuff. What really appeals to me about your thumb birds, though, is that I can envisage the end result right from the word 'go', as I'm drawing round my thumb. That appeals to my nature more than something entirely random can do! I'm going to have a go at this - thank you so very much for showing me how! 🐦

Thank you!!! Your comment is very helpful!!! It helps to know that my "draw around your thumb" idea is indeed a helpful way for someone to start a drawing!! I want to do more of this kind of thing and I so I very much appreciate your comment!! 💚💚
