Oh yes I just saw it! Funny I don't get an email for that kind of restack or something. I'm still going up the Substack learning curve. Thanks my friend!♥️💚

I love the story of your grandmother and the stained tablecloths! Did you draw the Dex details on the actual tablecloth?

Expand full comment
Sue Clancy's avatar

No I drew Dex in my sketchbook earlier this week. But as a kid I did draw on some of Grandma's tablecloths... it wasn't a popular thing I did but she dealt well with it. 😁 Now that time I resorted her quilt fabrics to make new color combinations was another matter... (mustn't mess with Grandma's sewing fabrics... just mustn't)

Grandma must have had to watch those little artist's hands like a hawk! (I hope you weren't one of the infamous draw on the walls kid.)

Sue Clancy's avatar

Yes! Grandma had a job of it. I started out drawing on walls but then Grandma got a chalkboard easel that was portable but stayed in her kitchen where she was most of the time. She also kept a stack of mimeograph papers - printed on one side - that she got from offices that had been intended for trash. She kept that paper in the kitchen beside a chipped ceramic mug that held pens and pencils of all sorts. Most of my early memories are of drawing in her kitchen while Grandma and her friend cooked.

I love this perspective on word play, sometimes the funniest moments are someone mishearing someone.

I mispronounced the word donkey in Spanish once, plus a sprinkling of mishearing and the two people (who I’d just met) heard me say ‘Look a spliff!’ Instead of ‘Look a donkey’ 🤣

I look forward to seeing more of your morning doodlings!

I do love a mispronunciation/hearing. Oh I have many, I blame the dyslexic brain mixing things up... But now I wonder if it’s this issue that is also a strength and why I like word play. Hmmm 🤔 Thank you for your writing/doodles! 💗

Wow what a beautifully written and sketches post about imagination and the possibility of infinite creation. It's true like allowing the tune of music become a whistle so too is the pen to brain ratio. https://www.saxxoncreative.com/poetry-cognitive-dissonance I had these gifts appear to me every morning in 2020 like some kind of word game that needed sketching... The first one appeared in 2009 in Brooklyn new York... "Imagination is not real it only thinks it is."

Thank you!! Yes, imaginative fictional creations are often "lies" that tell the truth.

Favorite line: "Similarly our perceptions of our own selves and what we have can be a bit odd… oftentimes we're so busy checking off a checklist, doing stuff constantly, that we forget to take moments to enjoy where we are now and how far we've come." -- Working in a sketchbook is an important part of slowing down, recognizing, claiming, and savoring those moments for me.... even when they are really, really small moments.
