It's always a pleasure to attend a Sue Clancy art show at Caplan! Your work is a shining light of happiness and fun. My wife Deb loved playing with the interactive art!
It gave me joy to see so many people being joyful. I’ve only been on substack for a short time, but back when I started I remember seeing, and enjoying, many doodlebug drawings. Were those yours, and if so is that something we’ll be seeing more of?
I'm delighted to hear that you got joy from what I shared!!!! Yes the doodlebugs are mine and you'll likely see many more of them over time. They're one of my regular characters. One of my exhibit books collect this years doodlebugs in one place https://www.blurb.com/b/12043332-doodlebugs and earlier I did a children's book of doodlebugs. Later this year I hope and plan to reproduce this year's sketchbook which also has a lot of doodlebugs in it. I'm afraid that with me doodlebugs emerge quite often one way or another 😁🤣🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞
Thank you for your comment!! I cried when I finished painting it too. I have been thinking of Vonnegut a lot lately. Please see on thos post my reply to Gloria Horton-Young's question about one of the folded books in my exhibit....
Oh SUE!!! So much joy, delight and laughter - I can feel it all, right through my screen! I’m so delighted for you - what a fabulous reception for an awe-inspiring exhibition of everything Clancy! Terrific work - and terrific play. 😁 CONGRATULATIONS! 💚❤️💚
Love seeing everyone in such good spirits and enjoying your artwork!!! With all of those conversations I bet you are full of new ideas. Thanks for letting us join you on your special day!
It's called "Clancy's View of Tralfamadore: a homage to Kurt Vonnegut and other intervals of time". It's about the perception of time: I list some of my favorite authors and the intervals of time they were alive, I list the time required to make various kinds of soup, the time required for various kinds of plants to grow as well as the time it takes rocks and planets to form..... I tried to write and illustrate it so that the time required to view my book itself would require different intervals.
This book is currently at the Gallery available for sale and I have some readable photos of it that I plan to share here on Substack soon 🤞
Oh wow, that sounds wonderful. I love that you made note of the conversations that came up as a result of your art, it’s art in itself. The brining of people together and the promotion of conversation and laughter! 💚

One more comment. Had a good cry after viewing your bird leaving the birdcage. Made me think of Kurt Vonnegut’s last illustration…

Congratulations!!! And I love your "art on the block"s. I fondly remember having a set of blocks - probably with Disney characters.
Thank you so much!!!! 💚💚💚💚
Wonderful evening!!
There’s a folded piece of horizontal art that has authors names and illustrations. Can you tell me about that piece, please?
